Hands on and Academic Math program designed to give your student Math Power

Kindergarten at Kahili offers a comprehensive math curriculum. This program will help children develop a solid math foundation by exposing them to numbers, measurement, geometric objects, statistics, and operations. Number sense helps children recognize numbers and identify their relative values. Measurement assigns value to objects and helps children understand an object's attributes. Geometric objects will show kindergarteners
shapes and how they fit together. Statistics will help children to recognize patterns and how to predict outcomes. Operations will teach children how numbers work together.

Kindergarten math students will be learning to count to 100, and to read and write numbers to ten. Kindergarten children will learn about cardinal numbers, which indicate quantity, and ordinal numbers, which indicate position. While learning to count to 100, kindergarten math students will be counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. They will learn the concept of odd and even numbers and be able to identify them.

Kahili’s Kindergarteners will be introduced to sets, addition, and subtraction. They will use numbers and pictures to count objects in a set. They will compare two sets and tell which is equal to, more than, or less than the other.

Their math lessons will teach them to define and solve problems, help them to develop reasoning skills that will be invaluable in later life. Just like reading, math has its own vocabulary and lessons are focused on getting children familiar with the language of math. Lastly, students are exposed to real life applications of math so they understand how math fits into their everyday life.

All these concepts will be taught using a variety of teaching methods, including hands on manipulative activities, workbook pages, and math fact sheets. Kahili’s kindergarten math program is designed to give your child math power and excellent head start as they begin their elementary career.
